Firebox sell special planks for the barbeque. Pre-soak your plank in water and put them on the barbeque. The idea is to close the barbeque for a short while until the plank is smoking hot and then you put the food on it. When it's cooked you take the whole plank out and use it as a serving dish.
Oak gives a heavier smoke flavour. Ideal for red meat and game, this is probably the best wood for steak.
Cedar is the traditional wood for fish and imparts a sweet, spicy flavour but is also fantastic for fruit. Use cedar planks for cooking salmon!
Beech gives the food a subtle sweet flavour, It will be ideal for poultry, pork, lamb and veg.
Cherry offers a subtle mild, fruity flavour and is excellent for poultry, fish, fruit and veg.
* BBQ Planks can be used on any type of barbeque - including charcoal, gas or electric BBQs
* Soak the plank for minimum 1-2 hours before using. The more saturated the wood, the longer it will last. This is important. If you do not soak the plank enough it'll just burn!
* BBQ Plank will last 5-15 times depending on how long you soak it and cook with it So soak it well and it'll last longer!
* For cleaning, scrub your BBQ Plank using a soft bristle brush, warm water and a mild washing up liquid, Do not put it in the dishwasher or use any strong detergent.Rinse the plank well, leave to dry and then put away for the next time.
