Serve a delightful sancerre at the start of your barbeque with some light nibbles like tiny chicken kebabs or fish kebabs!
2006 Pouilly Fumé, 'Fine Caillottes', J.Pabiot (half)
2006 Pouilly Fumé, 'Fine Caillottes', J.Pabiot (half) from Adnams Cellar & Kitchen £6.43
Jean Pabiot and son Alain are the proud guardians of a winemaking tradition stretching back 6 generations. Their sizeable domaine comprises an enviable portfolio of chalky Sauvignon Blanc vineyards in Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé. Wines from the latter perfectly express the appellation's classic smoky, minerally character. The grassy nuances and soft asparagus notes of this latest vintage make this great with goat cheeses, oysters and baked cod.
The Ned Black Label Waihopai River Sauvignon Blanc 2010, Marlborough
The Ned Black Label Waihopai River Sauvignon Blanc 2010, Marlborough from Majestic Wine £6.49
Named after one of the tallest rugged peaks to the southeast of the vineyard, The Ned offers superb purity of fruit and varietal character. A nose of nettles and grass leads to generous gooseberry flavours with a smoky herbal twist on the palate reminiscent of a well-crafted Sancerre. The stony terroir gives the wine a subtle gun flint minerality which delivers extra complexity.
2007 Pinot Noir 'The Bell Tower', Saint Pourcain
2007 Pinot Noir 'The Bell Tower', Saint Pourcain from Adnams Cellar & Kitchen £6.99
Located 100km south of Sancerre and 60km north of Clermont Ferrand, Saint Pourcain is the furthest outreach of Loire valley wines. The co-operative cellars here was founded in 1952 and following hard times in the 70s and 80s reorganised cellars and vineyards to focus their 450 hectares on the best sites for Chardonnay, Gamay, the local Tressalier and paticularly Pinot Noir.
2008 Classic Sauvignon Adnams Selection, Domaine Beausejour
2008 Classic Sauvignon Adnams Selection, Domaine Beausejour from Adnams Cellar & Kitchen £7.99
Philippe Trotignon's Sauvignon is unmistakably Sauvignon Blanc, with the aromatic qualities you'd associate with New Zealand, the minerality of a Sancerre and the ripe gooseberry flavours of classic Touraine. This is delightfully pure and is a joy when you feel like something fresh and zingy.

Sauvignon St Bris 2009, Simonnet-Febvre
Sauvignon St Bris 2009, Simonnet-Febvre from Majestic Wine £8.99
This wine combines the crisp, elegant green apple flavours of the Loire valley (the vineyards are less then 50km from Sancerre) with the minerally characters of Chablis (which is less than 5km away!). A delicious, tightly-knit and food-friendly Sauvignon Blanc which represents excellent value.
2007 Sancerre, Domaine Vacheron (Half Bottle)
2007 Sancerre, Domaine Vacheron (Half Bottle) from Adnams Cellar & Kitchen £9.99
Domaine Vacheron has some of the best vineyards in Sancerre, comprising equal measures of limestone and flint - the first lending wines 'tang', the latter minerality. In the dream Loire vintage of 2005 (a year of ripe yet perfectly-balanced wines), organically-oriented cousins Jean-Dominique and Jean-Laurent Vacheron kept yields one-fifth lower than typical local harvests, resulting in Sauvignon of real concentration. Incisively citrusy; hints of herbs; a fine match for river fish.
Sancerre 'Les Baudrières' 2010, Dominique Baud
Sancerre 'Les Baudrières' 2010, Dominique Baud from Majestic Wine £9.99
The most famous of all Loire Sauvignons, Sancerre is renowned for its crisp, citrus and gooseberry flavours, balanced by restrained mineral elegance.
